AIDSVote.org has teamed with four respected AIDS organizations -- POZ magazine (
Using a new interactive technology, visitors to POZ.com (
"It is vital that the vote of every person living with HIV/AIDS is both cast and counted," said Sean Strub, POZ founder and publisher. "The side effects of not voting can be fatal."
The process is simple: POZ.com visitors answer a simple questionnaire customized for their state of residence. (In some states, users will be prompted to contact their local elections office directly.) A completed absentee ballot request form and customized envelope are then generated. The forms can then be printed and either be mailed or dropped off locally.
People who are not yet registered to vote, or who need to register at a new address, can also do so through the website.
Terje Anderson, executive director of the Washington, DC-based NAPWA-US, said, "People with HIV/AIDS are all too aware how politics affects our lives directly, because day-to-day survival can depend on access to medication and housing supported by federal funding. But the reality of living with HIV is that sometimes our health can interfere with our ability to make it to the polls."
Charles King, president and CEO of New York City's Housing Works, said, "For anyone who thinks that they might not be able to vote due to drug side effects, a medical appointment or hospitalization, limited mobility, fatigue or lack of access to transportation, this technology can help make sure your vote isn't missed."
