Senate Budget Is Key To Fight Against The Bush Medicaid Cuts -- Keep Calling Those Senators!
The Senate and House Budget Committees will begin voting on budget resolutions today, with a vote early next week on the floor of each house. While it's certain that President Bush's $60 billion Medicaid cut will be approved in the House, the vote in the Senate is up for grabs. That's why it's so important that Update readers keep calling U.S. Senators to urge a vote against the Medicaid cuts.
Next week, when the budget resolution hits the floor of the Senate, there will be an amendment offered to take Medicaid cuts off the table and keep current funding in place. There's a good chance it will pass. Many Republicans have joined Democrats in questioning the wisdom of the Medicaid cuts -- almost all Governors, regardless of party, are against the cuts and several Republican Senators, including Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe of Maine, have also come out against them.
Call your Senators this week toll-free at 877-762-8762 and give them a simple message:
"Medicaid is a life-and-death issue for Americans living with AIDS and HIV, and we oppose cuts, caps and any attempts to weaken Medicaid - get Medicaid cuts out of the budget resolution."
