Despite strong anti-Medicaid pressure from House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, five Republican New York House members have signed on to an all-Republican letter against big Medicaid cuts that Rep. Heather Wilson (R-NM) is circulating.

Upstaters and Long Islanders should give a quick "thank you" call at 800-828-0498 to Representatives John Sweeney, Peter King, John McHugh, Randy Kuhl and James Walsh. DeLay -- who's known as "The Hammer" for his persuasive arm-twisting -- has been pressuring some representatives to get off the letter; they need to hear from us that we appreciate their standing up for New York, for Medicaid, and for people living with AIDS and HIV.

And anyone in the Utica-Auburn-Cortland district of Rep. Sherwood Boehlert should call him at 800-828-0498 (or 315-793-8146) to encourage him to sign on to the Wilson letter. Boehlert has stood up for our community before -- he's a cosponsor of the Early Treatment for HIV Act -- and we know he's considering joining the other New York Republicans on the Wilson letter. Give a call today and tell Congressman Boehlert we need his help now.
