RYAN...RAPIDLY

The shortest CARE Act update you'll ever read

WINING & DINING: HW staffers (left to right) Douglas Sanders, Linney Smith, Monica Perez and Diane Williams live it up at Sunday's CAEAR shindig

Faster than you can say "redistribution of scare dollars," here's this week's Ryan White CARE Act Update:

First, Housing Works staffers were delighted to attend this weekend's Annual Partnership Awards Dinner hosted by the CAEAR Coalition, which advocates for the Ryan White CARE Act, and of which HW federal advocacy director Robert Cordero is a member. HWers were especially proud when CAEAR gave its 2005 Keith Cylar National Activist Award—named for the HW cofounder who died in April 2004—to New Jersey activist Deloris Dockrey. And they were doubly proud when Errol Chin-Loy, HW's senior veep for health-care services, was honored for his service since 1998 on the CAEAR board. (He's completed that service but will remain active on the CAEAR Foundation board of directors.)

Second, attention to the reauthorization of the CARE Act is shifting from Senate staffers to House staffers, particularly those within the Energy and Commerce Committee, which oversees RWCA. That's a bit cryptic, we know, but we'll have more for you later.

Third, the "Ryan White Unity Summit" held in D.C. a few weeks ago, which convened reps from an array of key advocacy groups to come up with a common vision for RWCA reauthorization, has yielded a proposal attempting to addresss funding distribution in underserved areas around the country. The proposal is currently being vetted by all groups who were at the table—and will hopefully released soon to the community.

That's all this for this week, folks. Stay tuned.
